Help Fight the Coal-Fueled Power Plant in Kalama

Urge your PUD Commissioners to reject coal power
and to stop wasting ratepayer money.

Demand clean energy.

Last week, the Washington State Energy Site Evaluation Council rejected the proposed coal-fueled power plant in Kalama because it failed to meet standards for greenhouse gases that cause global warming and harm human health. However, Energy Northwest recently said it will put its lawyers to work to submit a new application, on the ratepayers’ dollar. If your Public Utility District (PUD) is listed below, you are paying for a new coal-fueled power plant proposal. Please tell your PUD Commissioners that you do not want to buy into a new coal-fueled power plant in Kalama.

After wasting millions of dollars in a misguided attempt to build a new coal-fueled plant in Kalama, the public utilities that make up Energy Northwest should drop all plans for a coal plant, and instead focus on conservation, efficiency, and renewable energy – not a coal project that poses a serious threat to our air, water, fish and wildlife.

Please email or call your PUD Commissioners and Manager on the list below to oppose a new application for a coal-fueled power plant in Kalama. Also, please write a letter to the editor of your local paper. Particularly important are letters to The Daily News (Longview) frontdoor@tdn.com, and The Columbian (Vancouver), letters@columbian.com. For ideas, see Columbia Riverkeeper’s Sunday op-ed in the Columbian, available here:
